19 Mar The Colours of Autumn
The Australian sun is riding lower in the sky and there is a slight nip in the breeze every now and then. The grasses are drying out after the long summer and the leaves are losing their lustre and turning pale. As the autumn progresses many of the leaves will fall to save energy and others will just shut down their growth and take on a softer appearance. Yellows, greys and browns are the colours of Autumn and you will see them slowly appear as the year progresses. Our Spotted Gum scarf design shows these colours on the trunk of an big old Spotted Gum tree in my front garden. It slowly sheds patches of grey and brown bark as they change colour and fall getting ready for the winter ahead.
